William Rodgers was convicted for the murder of George Brown 23 on 15 October 1964.
He had ealier been convicted of the manslaughter of Emanuel King, a coloured man in 1961 for which he served 3 years.
He stabbed George Brown 17 times in Vicarage Lane, North Shields and then ran away.
In 1961 he hit Emanuel King over the head with a bottle killing him. William Rodgers and Emanuel King and gone with a prostitute to Emanuel King's rooms where they drank together. Emanuel King later ordered William Rodgers and the prostitute out of his room and tried to drag William Rodgers out of bed. As he was doing so William Rodgers picked up a bottle from the floor and hit Emanuel King with it. Emanuel King lay on th efloor badly injured for the whole night.
